Event Details

Session 2 - Junior School    9am-12pm including lunch

Aimed at teachers of lower secondary students, teaching concepts such as healthy food choices, technology in the kitchen, sustainable food practices and multicultural food, with links to the Design and Technologies Syllabus - specifically Technologies Contexts – Food and fibre production and Food specialisations.

Outline

  • Provide examples of how the Thermomix can assist in the classroom to teach a range of topics from the Syllabus
  • Review the history of the Thermomix – covering the evolution and introduction of digital recipe technology, including an overview of Cookidoo.com.au.
  •  Hands on cooking of recipes – suitable for the use in lower school food classes
  • Provide hints and tips for suitable use of the Thermomix in the classroom and how to introduce the Thermomix to students.

 Session 3 - Senior School    1pm-3pm

To support teachers of Food Science and Technology (Upper School Food) with the presentation of functional properties of foods learning activities, by providing some suggested experiments. These experiments are designed to explore the temperature control of the Thermomix and explore other functions of the Thermomix, such as emulsifying, whipping, beating and heating.

 Outline –

  • Introduce the benefits of precise heating and its applications for demonstrating the functional properties of food.
  • Review the portability of the Thermomix and how it can be used easily to add practical aspects to theory classes.
  • Hands on cooking of recipes/experiments demonstrating the functional properties of food.
  • Provide hints and tips for suitable use of the Thermomix in the classroom and how to introduce the Thermomix to students.
