Event description
Western Australian State and local government officers are invited to attend the 2019 FOI in WA Conference - Building Trust.

About this Event

Hosted by the Office of the Information Commissioner, this conference will assist officers to understand their responsibilities under the FOI Act, provide practical information about acting in accordance with the FOI Act and explore strategies for efficient, effective FOI practices for the benefit of agencies, the State and the public.

When: Thursday 21 November 2019

Where: Education Building, Fiona Stanley Hospital

HIGHLIGHTS:

EMERITUS PROFESSOR GEOFF GALLOP, former WA Premier, will deliver the keynote speech.

A PANEL DISCUSSION - the Information Commissioner, joined by several senior public officers, will discuss the role and challenges of FOI and open government in 2019 and beyond.

How does this affect public trust?

Government agencies face a variety of challenges in meeting the needs of the community they serve and to be transparent and accountable in their decisions and operations. In response to assertions that there may be an erosion of public trust in government, information access can be an instrument that improves transparency and accountability in decision making.

Throughout the remainder of the day, participants will be able to choose between CONCURRENT WORKSHOPS, LECTURES and DISCUSSIONS about freedom of information related matters in Western Australia.

The conference provides an opportunity for State and local government officers who deal with freedom of information in any capacity, to come together for the day to share, collaborate and build skills to increase their understanding of the opportunities and practicalities of freedom of information.

TICKETS:

  • $109 - the full day ticket includes the keynote speech followed by a panel discussion and choice between a variety of lectures and workshops through the day about various aspects of freedom of information. Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea included.
  • $60 - keynote speech, panel discussion and morning tea ONLY (limited number of tickets available).

Please note, this event is for Western Australian State and local government officers only.

Legal practitioners will be able to claim CPD points for attendance at most of the conference sessions - details will be available closer to the date.
