Event description

Description

Dr Mandy Stanley (University of South Australia) will present this half-day training on how researchers can use focus groups to understand the issues, needs and ideas of particular groups (community groups, audiences, stakeholders, residents, users, consumers, customers, etc.).

Content will cover:

  • the conceptual foundations of using focus groups for data collection within qualitative research designs;
  • when to use focus group studies, design options, developing questions, recruiting participants, and moderating skills.
  • practical skills in conducting and moderating focus groups.

This will be a workshop (not seminar) and so there will be opportunity for participants to practice their skills in terms of designing interview questions and moderating a focus group.

Target group: Undergraduate students, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral researchers
