Event description

Description

On the first Friday night of each month, Brunswick Bound Upstairs hosts a night of local author readings. This month our event was cancelled due to a power outage on Sydney Road, so we have rescheduled it for Friday 29 March.

It's your chance to discover a new author and for authors to discover new audiences.

In March, the event will feature non-fiction from Lee Kofman (Imperfect) and Julienne van Loon (The Thinking Woman) and fiction from Alice Robinson (The Glad Shout).

Each author will read from their work and there will be a short Q&A afterwards.

Light refreshments will be served at the event.

We asked each author some questions to get to know them better - you can read what they had to say on the Brunswick Bound blog.

Dr Lee Kofman is a Russian-born, Israeli-Australian novelist, short story writer, essayist, memoirist and former academic based in Melbourne. She is the author of three fiction books (published in Israel in Hebrew) and the memoir The Dangerous Bride (Melbourne University Press 2014). Lee is also the co-editor of Rebellious Daughters (Ventura Press, 2016), an anthology of personal essays by prominent Australian authors. Her short works have been widely published in Australia, USA, Canada, Israel, the UK and Scotland. Lee holds a PhD in social sciences and MA in creative writing, and is a mentor and teacher of writing. She is also a regular public speaker and panel moderator.

Alice Robinson grew up in Parkville and Wallan. She earned a Bachelor of Creative Arts from The University of Melbourne and a PhD in Creative Writing from Victoria University, where she was awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Research and Research Training. Her fiction, essays and reviews have been published widely in literary journals, including Kill Your Darlings, The Lifted Brow, Overland, TEXT, Fireflies, Arena and Meanjin. Alice’s debut novel, Anchor Point (Affirm Press, 2015), was longlisted for The Stella Prize and the Indie Book Awards (debut fiction) in 2016. She now lives in Warragul with her family.

Julienne van Loon is a novelist and essayist living in Melbourne, Australia. She is the author of Road Story, winner of The Australian Vogels' Award, and two other critically acclaimed novels, Beneath the Bloodwood Tree, and Harmless. The Thinking Woman is her first non-fiction book. She currently works as a Vice Chancellor's Principal Research Fellow with non/fictionLab at RMIT University. Previously she directed the Creative Writing program at Curtin Universty on Australia's west coast.
