Event description

Description

Samford first aid is proud to be teaming up with Sun and Stars Bushcraft to create a unique workshop for those who live, work or travel in the great Australian outdoors. This workshop gives you HLTAID003, the standard workplace first aid qualification but with a unique outdoor focus more relevant to your life, not something you can get from a classroom based course. The workshop is a hands on day of practcal skills in an outdoor environment. Sun and Stars Bushcraft will bring a range of skills and knowledge to extend this workshop beyond just first aid to include planning for your time in an oudoor environment to keep you and those with you as safe as possible.

"Sun and Stars Bushcraft are committed to enabling people to re-connect with nature. Their workshops, camps and programs are great ways to re-discover or to exercise that wild and adventurous side that lies within us all. Whilst exploring ourselves and the outdoors it is crucial that we keep ourselves, and those around us safe. This is why we are excited to team up with Samford First Aid to provide a comprehensive, relevant and accessible Outdoor First Aid program that will ensure you have the confidence and knowledge to deal with any surprise incident, but more to the point, will give you sage planning skills that will help you avoid trouble in the first place."

The Provide First Aid course includes CPR and is the most current standard qualification for first aid providers in the workplace Australia-wide, designed to give you confidence to help those who suffer sudden injury or illness in the workplace, home or wherever you are.

The skills and knowledge in this program are relevant for any member of the general public, families, those who travel as well as workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. Weather permitting all of the practical scenarios will be conducted outside so please dress to suit the conditions, including sun hat, sun safe clothing, rain jacket and water bottle.

Our first aid course includes the most up-to-date basic life support principles including:

  • CPR and defibrillation for adults and infants
  • Breathing emergencies including Asthma and Anaphylaxis or severe allergic reaction and choking
  • Bleeding and wound care
  • Fractures, Sprains and Strains
  • Burns
  • Heart attack, Stroke and Diabetes
  • Seizures and Epilepsy
  • Temperature induced illness
  • Bites and stings
  • Legal issues surrounding first aid
  • Infection control & reporting.

PLEASE NOTE: The physical requirements of this course include performing a minimum two minutes of CPR on an adult manikin on the ground and rolling a casualty onto their side. Where possible, all scenarios will be conducted in an outdoor environment and may involve being outside in a range of weather conditions and walking, carrying equipment and conducting first aid on unven ground . If you have any concerns in this regard, please contact us as soon as possible prior to your workshop.
