QUALGRO was Founded by Chhor, a former director and senior partner at McKinsey & Co; and co-founded by Peter, former Co-founder of Optus-Innov8 - a Corporate VC investing in Australian technology startups, and part of Singtel Innov8, Singtel Group’s Corporate VC fund.
QUALGRO is a US$50 million fund that was closed late last year and to date has already made closer to twelve investments. The fund is focused on making investments into Series A and Series B rounds, with its smallest investment to date being US$750,000 and its largest being US$3 million. Of particular interest to the firm are marketplace and SaaS-based ventures with a focused interest in the the health, education, logistics, communication and financial technologies sectors.
This fireside chat will provide fuel for thought for doing business in Asia, and what investors are looking for from early/late stage companies across the ASEAN region - a digital marketplace that is expected to grow more than sixfold to $200b by 2025.

Peter Huynh, is a Co-Founder and Partner at Qualgro. Prior to Qualgro, Peter was a Co-Founder of Optus-Innov8, a Corporate VC investing in early-stage Australian technology startups, and part of Singtel Innov8, Singtel Group’s $250M Corporate VC fund. He has also led Technology M&A transactions for SingTel Group Digital Life.
Peter was previously at Hutchison 3G, where he undertook product, business development and corporate development roles, based in Sydney and London, and prior to that in digital agencies under the WPP Group. Peter started his technology career at Computer Sciences Corporation.
He is also an Investor/Mentor at Startmate, regarded as Australia’s most successful accelerator program.
Heang Chhor is the Founder and Managing Partner of Qualgro. Heang was previously a Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company (26 years) and has spent the last decade in Asia, leading McKinsey & Co in Japan during much of that time.
He has advised multinationals and Asian conglomerates on topics spanning growth, operations, M&A and organizational change. He has deep business experience and networks in Consumer, Retail / e-commerce, Banking / FinTech and Technology.
Heang is a French citizen, was born in Cambodia, educated in Europe and has worked across Europe, Latin America and Asia.
Michael has been a business journalist for 12 years. He has extensive experience editing magazines covering funds management, commercial property and the travel industry. In 2011 he won a Citi Excellence in Financial Journalism award for a BRW cover story on economic indicators. Michael writes on Leadership, specialising in Entrepreneurs, Innovation and Startups. Based in Sydney newsroom, Michael was deputy editor, then editor of BRW between 2011 and 2016.
