The University of Queensland School of Education

By 1944 the Queensland Teachers' Training College was struggling to supply enough teachers to meet the shortage caused by - as one source delicately puts it - "war-time extingencies".

The current UQ School of Education traces its origins to the creation in 1945 of a Department of Education that offered initial teacher education programs and postgraduate research degrees.

Education has changed in important and unimaginable ways since then. The School has changed too, but we are still, as always, seeking to create and share knowledge that will shape policies and practices in the global education community.

The School acknowledges the precedence and continuity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander custodians of the Australian continent, their contribution to knowledge, and pays our respects to elders, past, present and emerging.
