Film screening: Utamaro and His Five Women (Japan, 1946, 106min, PG)
Event Information
Description
Inspired by the life of Kitagawa Utamaro, considered by many critics to be the greatest portraitist of the ukiyo-e woodblock print, Director Kenji Mizoguchi’s film explores the artist’s complex relationships with the women who inspired him.
The passion of both Utamaro and Mizoguchi for the beauty of women makes this one of the finest films about an artist and the unstoppable drive to create images.
