SUZY AND THE SIMPLE MAN - Screening and Q&A

Intimate, funny and uplifting, SUZY & THE SIMPLE MAN is an environmental love story about sustainability and the cycle of life.

Suzy is a strong and independent woman, a black belt in karate who built her own house in her early 20s. Her husband Jon describes himself as a simple man, despite having climbed Mt Everest, skied to the South and North Poles, and walked alone across Australia. Together, this pragmatic and romantic couple live off the grid on a remote property in Victoria.

Eight years in the making, SUZY & THE SIMPLE MAN reveals the labour, knowledge and skill they’ve brought to creating their organic garden of riches, their unsentimental approach to farming animals and facing threats posed by drought, floods, fire and insect plagues. But when their edenic life faces an unexpected trial, Suzy and Jon’s formidable reserves of bravery and conviction are severely tested.

This modest story has big questions at its heart - the care of the planet and ourselves, our relationship to each other, to nature and to other creatures, and to our own mortality.

Film: 5:45pm for 6pm Introduction by Ian Darling, award winning social impact documentary filmmaker and Director of Suzy and the Simple Man.

Q&A: 7:30pm

Tickets to the screening also include free admission to `Anti-Valentine's Day'. This edition of Culture Up Late runs between 5pm and 9pm at the Australian Museum on the same night.
