Figuring Worlds: Engaging the Environmental Humanities
Mon. 21 November 2016, 10:00 am – 12:30 pm AEDT
This workshop will focus on four pre-circulated papers by our two international visitors: Prof. Joni Adamson (ASU) and Prof. Elizabeth DeLoughrey (UCLA). Working across oceanic and desert landscapes, they explore the legacies and ongoing realities of colonialism and diverse forms of environmental destruction. More than merely descriptive, each in their own way asks how the humanities and other creative, publically engaged practices, might contribute to the imagining and crafting of inclusive, bioculturally diverse, worlds.
The workshop will begin with two invited responses to these readings from Prof. Warwick Anderson (USyd) and A/Prof. Tess Lea (USyd). The majority of the workshop will take the form of a Q&A and general audience discussion with the panellists on key themes emerging from the readings. Readings will be circulated to registered participants one month prior to the event.
