Bashi Kumar Hazard (Australian Consumer Lawyer and Board Director of Human RIghts in Childbirth HRIC)

Bashi Kumar-Hazard is an Australian lawyer with over 15 years experience in consumer law and a board director of Human Rights in Childbirth (HRiC). In addition to specializing in antitrust and consumer law matters, Bashi has represented families in coronial inquests, acted for midwives in statutory investigations, prepared government submissions on maternity healthcare policy and prepared human rights based fact-finding reports in Australia and internationally. She directed the inaugural Human Rights in Childbirth conference in India in February 2017, and is continuing to drive strategies for increasing awareness and advocacy in the Global South. Bashi is mother to 3 amazing young children, teaches ethics to primary school aged children and grows orchids.

Professor Hannah Dahlen (School of Nursing and Midwifery - Western Sydney University)

Hannah Dahlen is the Professor of Midwifery and Director of Higher Degree Research in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Western Sydney University. She has been a midwife for 28 years and still practices as a privately practising midwife. She is one of the first midwives in Australia to gain Eligibility and access to a Medicare provider number following government reforms in 2010.

Hannah has strong national and international research partnerships, has received 20 grants since 2000 and has had over 150 publications. She has spoken at over 100 national and international conferences in the past 5 years and given invited keynote addresses at most of these.

In November 2012 Hannah was named in the Sydney Morning Herald’s list of 100 “people who change our city for the better” A panellist on the selection panel for the special feature in the (Sydney) magazine described Professor Dahlen as “probably the leading force promoting natural birth and midwife-led care in Australia.” Professor Dahlen was named as one of the leading “science and knowledge thinkers” for 2012.

The event begins at 6.00pm with canapes upon arrival.

Drinks can be purchased on the night.

The formalities kick off at 7pm sharp - where both Bashi and Hannah will speak before the floor opening up for Q & A - faciliated by Zoe Naylor (one of the Birth Time team).

All proceeds from the evening contribute to the @BirthTimeWorld Documentary which is currently in production.

Ticket price is $75 + GST + Booking Fee ($85 total)
