Fauna Foray at Karakamia Wildlife Sanctuary
Event Information
About this Event
The Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC) is the largest private manager of land for conservation in Australia, protecting endangered wildlife across 4.6 million hectares in iconic regions such as the Kimberley, Cape York, Lake Eyre and the Top End.
The AWC story began here in the Shire of Mundaring, with the purchase of what became Karakamia Sanctuary, where important populations of threatened and declining mammals such as Tammar Wallabies, Woylies and Quenda now thrive.
The fauna forays involve walking in the bush at night on uneven and sometimes rocky trails, please refer to the walk info below to make sure it is suitable for you. Light refreshments will be provided at the start of the evening. Numbers are limited so please register your attendance to avoid missing out!
What to bring: insect repellent, long sleeve top and trousers, sturdy covered shoes for walking and hiking poles if required. Bring a jumper in case it gets cool. Bright spotlights with red filters are carried by the guides to point out animals and light the path. You may wish to bring a small torch of your own to help find your footing along the tracks at night (please no head torches).

Notes for the first & second fauna forays walks - The 2 hour (3 km) walks follow rocky bush-tracks with number of stops along the way to talk about the habitats and look at the animals. Some inclines are encountered along the route and the ground can be slippery due to pea gravel. Participants need to be of moderate fitness and stable on their feet. This walk is not suitable for the mobility impaired or for children under the age of seven.
Notes for the third fauna foray walk – This walk is shorter (1 hr15 min) and is suitable for younger children and the less physically fit. However the ground can still quite slippery due to the pea gravel.
