Event description

Description

What will fashion practices look like in 2030? Fast Forward: Fashion 2030, a studio-led design pop-up developed by RMIT Fashion and Textile lecturers Jo Cramer and Kate Sala, seeks to imagine new circular fashion practices.

Join third year RMIT School of Fashion and Textile students for this 'behind the scenes' look at new approaches to fashion.

There will be two presentations, from 4.00 to 5.00 pm and from 5:30-6:30 pm.

Students will showcase the interim results of their collaboration with Germany’s future-thinking sustainable designer and entrepreneur Ina Budde, who came to Melbourne courtesy of the Goethe-Institut as part of RMIT Gallery/ Goethe-Institut's exhibition Fast Fashion: the dark side of fashion. As founder of Design for Circularity, Budde realises recyclable product and system innovations for fashion labels with products designed for a ''cradle to cradle'' inspired circular economy.

Students worked with Budde to explore how they can approach changing the practices and systems of production and consumption to a more sustainable model. Through their various approaches, they reveal the potential for a new fashion system to emerge.

The students will also discuss their personal concerns as future designers and their ideas for alternative future fashion, sharing their work-in-progress with folios, images, garments and fabric samples.
