Event description
The fashion and textile industries are among the world's most environmentally damaging and exploitative.

About this Event

The United Nations estimates the industry accounts for 20% of global wastewater and 10% of global carbon emissions, as well as resulting in with one garbage truck of textiles being sent to landfill or burned every second.

With 70 million workers globally involved in garment production, humans also suffer with workers subject to unacceptable working conditions and pay rates. Recognition of these issues has led to the development of the UN Alliance on Sustainable Fashion which aims to encourage the private sector and governments to reduce fashion’s negative environmental and social impacts and use the fashion sector to help implement the Sustainable Development Goals.

Ranging from industry interventions to fashion activism, this symposium will examine the actions from the public, the private sector, and governments that will shape the industry's future.
