FARM KIDS SCHOOL HOLIDAYS - The Sun Workshop
Event Information
About this event
Monday 24th January 2022 @ 9.30am – 12.30pm
We start the workshop with an educational, hands on and fun tour of The Farm followed by a discussion on the sun, seasons, food production, photosynthesis and sun safety. We make natural sunscreen, plant aloe and sunflowers in our garden and paint a carboard pot and plant a sunflower seed to take home.
What is included?
The Farm Tour
At the beginning of each workshop we take the children on an educational and fun tour of The Farm. We educate them about our cows, pigs, bees, chickens, flower crops, herb garden, orchard and veggie crops. We discuss concepts like paddock rotation for the animals, pollination, organic farming, healthy soil and composting and other ethical farming practices. The children get up close and personal with our pet chickens and when available we taste veggies, edible flowers and herbs.
Discussion
- Why do humans need sunlight? Why do plants need sunlight? How do plants react to the sun? Explore the farm gardens and see how the farmers plant certain species in full sun, half sun and in the shade.
- How do the seasons effect the farm and food production?
- Sunflowers and how they move with the sun.
- Simple Photosynthesis.
