Description

This conference is a NESA accredited course designed specifically for teachers and executive level staff in schools with a focus on leading change in Aboriginal education so as to improve the educational outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

It will address standards 1.4.2, 2.4.2, 3.4.2, 6.3.2, 7.4.2 and count for 4 1/2 hours of professional learning for NESA accreditation.

The program will begin with an Acknowledgement of Country and introductory address.

Tracy Mackenzie is the Far North Coast ACLO and she will be addressing protocols and ways for schools to work with Aboriginal communities for a positive outcome.

Dr Cathie Burgess is a Senior Lecturer at the Sydney School of Education and Social Work at the University of Sydney who will investigate the Aboriginal perspectives and culturally responsive relationships-based pedagogical approaches to improve student outcomes and connect with the community.

Julian Emsley of Tweed River High School, a member of the Aboriginal Studies Association, will present resources for connecting with your local community.

Jade Carr from International Grammar School in Sydney, will be investigating the Aboriginal perspective across the K-12 curriculum.

Dr. Paddy Cavanagh, Associate Life Member of the NSW AECG, will present his lecture on "Sailing with Captain Cook in the Aboriginal Studies classroom".

The day will end with a panel where teachers can have their questions answered.
