Event description

Description

The one day professional development will cover the changes that must be incorporated into our practice. As of last year, there have been some significant changes to the way community services and health workers share information about the wellbeing of children and about situations where family violence may be present. There are three new legislative reforms that came into effect that need to be understood and incorporated into our practice. The reforms are the Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme (FVISS), the Child Information Sharing Scheme (CISS), and the Family Violence Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management Framework (MARAM Framework). The reforms are described in brief below:

The MARAM Framework is the updated Common Risk Assessment Framework (CRAF) and it underpins both FVISS and the CISS reforms. Organisations that are prescribed under the MARAM - which is all CSH services - must now embed the MARAM Framework into their services and use the associated tools to assess for the presence of family violence, even when there are no obvious indicators.

The changes under the FVISS mean that we no longer require consent from children, perpetrators and in many cases third parties (including professionals) and non-offending adults to share information about family violence and in particular, perpetrators, with other services. The PD will explain the consent thresholds and what it means to you as teacher.

The CISS changes the way that we share information without consent about the wellbeing and safety of children between services. The aim is for proactive, early sharing of any information to improve the wellbeing of children. This means that we no longer share information only when a child is at risk. The PD will explain the consent thresholds for information sharing and what you need to do as a teacher to make sure your students are prepared to practice within the legal framework.

The one day professional development will prepare workers to understand the changes that must be incorporated into our practice.
