Event description

Description

This event brings together three internationally acclaimed family violence and child development researchers, Professor Jennifer McIntosh (Deakin University), Professor Amy Holtzworth Munroe (Indiana University), and Professor Louise Newman (University of Melbourne).

The Centre for Social and Early Emotional Development (SEED) supports a cutting-edge program of research into healthy emotional development across the life-course. In this forum, the Early Childhood Stream of SEED presents the latest research on the unique developmental challenges to social and emotional growth for children growing up in the nexus of family separation and family violence. Visiting Professor Amy Holtzworth Munroe, Indiana University, unpacks current general population prevalence, and the additive risks of family separation. Professor McIntosh, Deakin University, describes current evidence on the developmental sequelae for young children of growing up in contexts of acute and chronic parental conflict and violence, with a focus on early attachment security. Professor Newman will discuss implications for early screening and intervention across community and court sectors.

Afternoon tea will be provided at this event.
