Description

Come and celebrate NAIDOC week with us. We are delighted to welcome two very special guests Dub Leffler and Jasmin Herro.

11am – 12noon
Dub Leffler is a Bigambul man and is Australia’s premier Illustrator of Indigenous children’s literature.
He has written two books for children and illustrated over 20 publications. He has taught Illustration both here in Australia and internationally & has collaborated with the likes of Shaun Tan, Sally Morgan and Banksy. His first
book, the award winning Once There Was a Boy, has garnered critical acclaim worldwide and his latest illustrated book, Sorry Day, written by Coral Vass is currently illustrating his first title for Penguin Random House, entitled Rocky & Louie written by Raewyn Caisley and Phil Walley-Stack.

12– 1pm
Jasmin Herro is a multi-award winning Indigenous businesswoman. When asked by her daughter about their Torres Strait Islander heritage, she realised that she knew very little about her own culture. Teter Mek’s story mirrors Jasmin’s journey of discovering her cultural identity. Teter Mek and the Mystery of Pearl Shell Island is her first children’s book. Jasmine will conduct an exclusive reading from her next book followed by an art & craft workshop. For younger children, there will be an array of colouring-in activities relating to the book, while older children will get the opportunity to make their very own crocodile egg! The egg will open to have a baby crocodile inside.

Join us for one or both author/illustrator workshops, craft activities 11am – 2pm and Library tours which will all focus on this year’s NAIDOC week theme Because of her we can.
