You deserve yoga time.
River Spirit Yoga’s Family Friendly classes provide an opportunity for parents and carers to practice yoga in a nurturing environment while kids play with toys, socialise and soak up the shakti in the room. How does it work? Well, as parents, I think we all know that best laid plans.. etc… But, how it usually goes is that your child will determine how much yoga asana you engage in; it may be an entire hour of uninterrupted practice, with cuddles to boot! Some days, it may be less. Some kids like to join in with the postures or ‘help’ with adjustments. There are plenty of toys for kids to play with, and most times they entertain each other around the room. It’s a lot like a café or park play date, but instead of drinking coffee and eating, you’re doing yoga. You may need to pause to feed, guide behaviour, tend to nappies or cuddle. Just join in again when you’re ready.
Q: What to bring?
A: Mats, change table, kitchen provided, so bring whatever else you need for you and your little yogi’s comfort. Please avoid bringing noisy toys, thanks.
Q: What if my child gets hungry?
A: Breast feeding is welcomed (of course!) Bring snacks and drinks for your little one. We do try to encourage them to eat on the mat provided if possible, but otherwise, we clean up afterwards. Food that’s easy to vacuum or wipe is preferred. Please be aware that the kids generally end up sharing each other’s’ snacks.
Q: What if my child wanders around the room?
A: They will, and that’s fine. Just keep an eye on them to make sure they, and all others are safe and comfortable. Feel free to move your practice around the room with them if it’s easier than moving them back to you.
Q: What if my child is noisy?
A: Great. They are providing us all with the opportunity to practice yoga in action.
Q: My child loves yoga – can they join in?
A: Most certainly! It’s my belief that these lucky kids will develop a passion for yoga by being in this environment. Please just make sure they’re safe, and if they require their own mat, please purchase a childrens ticket as well – it’s follows the same principe as an airline ticket! *Ask first, as this fee may be waived if it’s a quiet class.
Q: What age is it suitable for?
A: All ages are welcome! See above re. buying a ticket if your child would like to have their own mat.
Q: How many kids can I bring?
A: Your ticket covers one adult and up to 2 kids, so you may to purchase a childs tickets as well. Check with me first though, as if it’s a quiet class it’ll be fine to bring 3. You all deserve yoga too!!
Q: What level of yoga is it?
A: I aim to cater for all levels by giving plenty of options.
Q: What kind of yoga is it?
A: It’s real yoga. Classical yoga. Yoga which helps guide us towards stillness. The physical postures (asana) are a mix of hatha, vinyasa and iyenga. Props are available and optional. We practice strength, flexibility, balance, alignment, ease, breathing, stillness, awareness, love and laughter and connection.
Q: Do I have to book?
A: Yes, please book, even it’s the night before the class. This allows the class sizes to be monitored for everyone’s’ safety and comfort. The term bookings allow us to connect with group, and the kids quickly become comfortable with the familiar environment.
Q: Can I come on a casual basis?
A: We're moving to 6 week term bookings. This is mostly because it's working really well for parents and kids to get to know each other, and it helps me to ensure classes are just the right size. Booking for the 6 week term will save you $$.
Depending on class sizes, you will be able to book casual classes too.
Q: What If I can't make it to a class?
A: Let me know the night before the class and you can enjoy up to 2 make up classes by attending on another day or outside of term bookings.
Q: Do classes run throughout the school holidays?
A: Yep. We just keeping rolling!
Q: Do classes run on public holidays?
A: Nope. Family time days. Check the dates on your ticket, ignore the public holiday dates.
