Description

Now in their 13th year, Fame and Shame awards highlight the worst of junk food marketing to kids in an environment where almost 40 per cent of Australian children’s energy intake comes from discretionary foods and drinks. It also recognises the campaigns that promote healthy food and physical activity to children.

Join us for the announcement of the winners and losers of 2017.

The event will feature a the following speakers:

Alice Pryor - Campaigns Manager, Parents’ Voice
Craig Bennett - CEO, Diabetes Victoria
Matt Hopcraft - Associate Professor, CEO, Australian Dental Association Victorian Branch
Nicole French - Parent and Managing Director - Exercise for Rehabilitation & Health
Rebecca Zosel - Parent and Public Health Consultant
Liz Watson - Netballer, Melbourne Vixens and Australian Diamonds

Seven awards as voted on by parents will be presented:

Shame Awards

Digital Ninja - Given to the brand which has used digital media in the most obvious way to target children, gaining their attention; driving active participation in the brand and encouraging pester power.

Smoke and Mirrors - Awarded for the use of misleading claims on children’s foods that make an unhealthy product appear healthier than it is.

Pester Power - Awarded to the food marketing campaign that uses techniques which appeal to children, leading them to nag their parents for unhealthy foods.
Foul Sport - For a company, team or athlete using sport to promote unhealthy food and drinks to children.

Bother Boards - Given to the brand which has used interactive billboards in shopping centres, indoors and outdoors, to influence children.

Fame Awards

Parents’ Choice – Food - Celebrates an advertisement promoting healthy eating to children.

Parents’ Choice – Physical Activity - Awarded to an advertisement encouraging children to be active.
