Event description

Description

Nowhere is the harm from gambling to people and communities more acute than in Fairfield, where more than $8 billion is put through the pokies in a year.

But Fairfield is also at the forefront of the community push back against the harm caused by pokies to people, families and communities. The Mayor has called for a freeze on new poker machines and local people and groups want more done to protect their neighbourhood.

I’m partnering with the local Fairfield community and the Alliance for Gambling Reform for a special screening of the Ka-Ching! Pokie Nation documentary, exposing the dark side of this industry and how the machines are designed for addiction.

Following the screening, I’ll be joined by members of the Alliance and local community representatives for a discussion on gambling harm and where communities like Fairfield and others across the state go from here.

Please join us if you live in Fairfield or are concerned about the impacts of poker machines on your community.
