UOW Human Geography Society and GreenConnect are collaborating to bring attention to sustainable and socially equitable food production. The event will take place during ‘Fair Food Week’ (16-23 October 2016).
GreenConnect is a social enterprise that manages an urban farm in Warrawong. The farm is run by migrants and local youth, and grows a range of seasonal, chemical free produce available for businesses and public (weekly veg box) to purchase. The farm aims to reduce food miles, create jobs and build the food security of the region.
The event will showcase what GreenConnect does, as well as facilitate a discusion about the uneven geography of food production. Join us dinner made from freshly picked and prepared Green Connect produce and hear from UOW human geography PhD Candidate Ananth Gopal, GreenConnect farm manager, volunteers and employees about how this local initiative tackles a global problem.
All HuGS members, UOW students, staff and community members are all invited to attend. Food and drinks will be provided free of charge.
Registrations are essential.
