Precis
The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences research strategy ‘Transforming Health Research’ challenges its researchers to perform “impactful research that has real health outcomes”. Across universities, and across the world, the challenge of strengthening and evidencing the impact of research in terms of benefit to society and the economy has become a priority.
This seminar will provide an opportunity for Faculty staff and HDR students* to reflect on what kinds of knowledge, skills and ways of working are needed to address this challenge, both by researchers themselves and through the wider research governance system.
An introductory presentation will be given by Professor Alison Tierney. Alison will provide an overview of the state of our understanding about ‘research impact’, also drawing on the analysis of the evidence of impact that was reported in the UK’s most recent research assessment exercise (the 2014 Research Excellence Framework - REF).
Other presentations will be given by Professor Josef Gecz and Professor Jon Karnon, who will provide local examples about how to successfully target high impact journals and connect their research to end users including consumers, policy makers, industry and the research community.

A Q&A session will follow presentations and the event will close with networking drinks and nibbles from 5pm.

*For University of Adelaide HDR students, please note that attendees at the Faculty Forum are eligible to claim 1.5 CaRST hours in domain D.
