An afternoon of swapping your unused, preloved and salvaged fabrics & manchester as well as your stories and project ideas.
Bring along those fabrics (and manchester!) you've never managed to use and swap them for something you will! Any fabric pieces larger than a 'fat quarter' (25cm square) can be used towards tokens for exchange.
Green living Centre Staff and volunteers will check your fabric and exchange approx 1sqm of fabric for 1 token. Bring as much or as little as you like. It's a great chance to check out your stash, rejuevenate projects and inspire your imagination.
Tokens can be exchanged for 'new' fabric that inspires you in the same manner.
11:00 am - 12:00pm Check In
Exchange clean fabric/manchester in reasonable condition for tokens. Pieces over 25cm square can be accumulated for exchange. Approx 1sqm = 1 token, with all exchanges at the discretion of Green Living Centre Staff and Volunteers.
11:30 am - 1:00 pm Be Inspired
Chat with Lyndell, on site demonstrating nostalgia quilting. Even the smallest scraps of fabric can be given new life with this traditional technique. Chat with each other! What did you bring? Why did you buy it in the first place? What are you looking for?
12:30 pm - 3:00 pm Swap!
Exchange tokens for 'new' fabric at the same exchange rate - Pieces over 25cm square can be accumulated for exchange. Approx 1sqm = 1 token, with all exchanges at the discretion of Green Living Centre Staff and Volunteers.
Terms of Swap
This is a money free event! There is no cost to participating and the only 'currency' to exchange hands will be the tokens swapped by Green Living Centre Staff.
This swap is limited to fabric/manchester pieces. The aim of the day is to find new homes and new purpose for fabric. To inspire new projects and complete old ones. To reuse and upcycle rather than buy new.
Be it bought by the metre, remnants, project scraps, blankets, sheets, curtains or throws, all types of fabric are welcome, provided they are clean, whole and predominantly stain free.
No bric-a-brac, accessories, or clothing will be accepted this time around.
You are welcome to deconstruct clothing for swappable fabric pieces (over 25cm square) in advance of the event if you wish.
Green Living Centre Staff and volunteers will exercise their discretion when accepting fabric and token exchanges. Green Living Centre decisions are final.
Swap jinxes (2 or more parties wanting the same piece) that cannot be settled via amicable discussion between parties will be settled by a Green Living Centre Staff member or Volunteer with a coin toss.
Green Living Centre is a sustainability resource hub in the heart of Newtown. The Green Living Centre is dedicated to growing a culture of environmental sustainability within the urban community.
