Event description
Training aimed at front line services (staff and managers) to build skills and awareness of complex presentations of family violence.

About this event

ATDC Members only event.

Training conducted over two days:

Day 1: 18th February

Day 2: 25th February

**You are booking to attend two full days of training.

The Family Violence Masterclass will focus on 4 key learning outcomes:

1. How to identify family violence amongst clients.

2. How to react once family violence has been identified.

3. How to support victims of family violence.

4. How to support oneself when exposed to family violence related client experiences.

Some of the topics discussed will include:

• the ‘whole-of-life’ experience of family violence, rather than the usual incident-based, criminological approach.

• coercive control and manipulation.

• what drives men’s violent and controlling behaviour.

• simple screening, risk management and response tools.

• how to fully embed family violence-informed practice throughout the organisation, creating the potential for a changed organisational culture.

The training is built to follow and integrate with the Lifeline Domestic Violence Alert Model and is based on the perspective that family abuse is not something that might be a factor in a person’s life, but a reflection of an integral part of how relationships, personal life and culture are organised.

There will be two presenters:

Alina Thomas

Alina Thomas, CEO of Engender Equality, has established her career in the community sector with over 20 years of experience across a range of health and community projects, focusing on women and wellbeing. She also delivers a range of family violence prevention and response training across Tasmania.

Jack Dalby

Jack Dalby collaborated with Engender Equality to develop their training program. He has been working for over 15 years in community and government services and his main area of focus has been trauma, violence, masculinity, and gender. Jack specialises in helping men develop tools to manage anger and strong feelings and providing behaviour change training for men who have used violence or controlling behaviours in relationships.
