Event description

Description

Calling rebels! With less than a decade to implement BIG CHANGE we need to step this movement up. Extinction Rebellion And School Strike have inspired many world-wide, and there is growing local front-line resistance to the Adani mine, and other mining projects. We need big, bold actions with climate JUSTICE at their heart.
This event was rescheduled from SATURDAY 14/9 to SUNDAY 22nd - all tickets purchased prior to the 14th are valid at the 22nd or a future training day (one planned for the 5th October also)

This full day training is for people interested in Extinction Rebellion. Old and new activists welcome. It will include:

* What makes for an effective action? Theories of successful action design, plus practical roles and action planning.

* What are your legal rights? We will explain how to navigate the legal system

* Learn more about powerful nonviolent resistance and how peaceful protest has been part of successful campaigns and social movements worldwide

* What is nonviolent conflict, and how do we de-escalate and keep things peaceful if we are stretching out of our comfort zone

* What will extinction rebellion actions look like? How do I get involved?

The event facilitation will be supported by Nicola Paris who has been a key organiser in many of the largest climate focused civil disobedience events in Australia. Co-facilitators involved in different XR working groups will also be involved - and we will be upskilling new facilitators.

Please bring food to share for lunch, a water bottle and a note book. Wear comfortable clothes for practical exercises.

This training is being subsidised by CounterAct. A token $5 is being requested to secure a space, which can be returned upon attendance. We welcome additional donations to support our ongoing training and upskilling of XR.

We support family friendly events - child care is not provided to keep the costs low priced, but children may be welcome, pending available space.

Aboriginal people are always welcomed to our events at no cost. We pay respects to the Traditional Custodians, on whose land this event takes place. Sovereignty was never ceded.
