Event description

Description

Professional development for teachers

To celebrate the release of the new Storm Boy movie, teachers are invited to visit Coorong National Park and learn about this unique ecosystem, and its flora, fauna, water management, Indigenous culture and park management.

We will be launching a new Coorong National Park teacher resource pack at this event.

Jointly hosted by Natural Resources South East and SA Murray-Darling Basin.

Requires an average level of fitness as we will be kayaking, walking through sand dunes and dancing like pelicans!

For more information, email angela.breeding@sa.gov.au (SAMDB) or natasha.dawson@sa.gov.au (South East).

Activities include:

  • Kayak across the Coorong lagoon
  • Bush food walk with a Cultural Ranger
  • Take part in an Ngarrindjeri pelican dance
  • Learn about the Coorong ecosystem including shorebirds, water management, invasive plants and animals
  • Walk across the dunes to the Ocean Beach
  • Be the first to check out a new Coorong National Park teacher resource pack
  • Hear from park rangers about the history of the park and its management
  • Learn how to integrate your learning into a unit on the Storm Boy book/movies.

Lunch

Enjoy a Coorong mullet burger cooked on the beach, plus fresh fruit and homemade goodies. Please indicate any dietary requirements when booking.

What to bring

  • water bottle
  • towel
  • hat
  • sunscreen
  • bug spray
  • wear clothing and shoes suitable for physical activity (you may get wet).

Note: it is very windy on the Ocean Beach, so jackets are recommended.

This program is funded by the SA Murray-Darling Basin and South East NRM Boards and the NRM levies, enabling landholders and community to play an active role in our region’s future.
