Event Information
Description
Come and explore Ngarri-djarrang Grassland, Darebin’s most significant remnant grassland reserve.
Ngarri-djarrang in Reservoir is a fine example of a plains grassland, and is managed by an effective partnership between Darebin Council and Merri Creek Managemnt Committee.
The area is 9 hectares and officially became a reserve in 2002. This grassland reserve is considered to be of state conservation significance due to the high diversity of flora including some endangered plants - in fact 121 native plants have been recorded here.
With just 1% of Victoria's volcanic plains grasslands left, it is imperative that this reserve is protected from land clearing and other harmful behaviours, and preserved for its own value, and the benefit of current and future generations.
Explore this plains grassland with Merri Creek Management Committee's Ecological Restoration Planner, and learn more about this the history, flora and fauna of the reserve, as well as how the reserve is managed, and importantly, how you can play a part in protecting and preserving this important natural heritage site.
Meet at 10.00am at the corner of Davidson and Dawson Streets, Reservoir. Remember to wear closed shoes, a hat, and bring water and sunscreen.
