About Women of the West
Instigated by Western Health as part of a 2018 NAIDOC Week competition, the exhibition brings together 30 portraits selected by Weenthunga Health Network – an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander–led organisation.
Community members were invited to submit photos of women who live or work in the west that highlight the incredible role, achievements or contributions of local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. Launched during NAIDOC Week in 2018, the exhibition responded to the theme for the annual national week of recognition, ‘Because of her, we can!’, highlighting the contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have made – and continue to make – to our communities, our history and to our nation.
The photography exhibition is run by Western Health and proudly supported by Brimbank City Council, Maribyrnong City Council, Moonee Valley Council, Local Aboriginal Network and VU’s Moondani Balluk. It is presented at VU at MetroWest as part of VU’s International Women’s Day celebrations.
