Exhibition Launch: 2019 Archibald Prize
Event Information
About this Event
For the first time in a long time we are able to have a public event in the gallery. We are delighted that this coincides with our first exhibition of the year, the Archibald Prize 2019.
Because we needed extra space to accommodate the whole exhibition, the opening will take place across two venues: the Regional Gallery and Culture Hub at Coffs Central. The exhibition Opening will take you on a journey beginning at the Gallery at 4pm (for the official side of things), followed by a short stroll across to Culture Hub where drinks and nibbles will be served by Depot Café at Coffs Central.
This opening is extra special because because it marks two significant milestones for 2021:
- it is the centenary year of the Archibald prize and
- it is the twenty year anniversary the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery.
Awarded to the best painting of a notable Australian, the Archibald Prize is a who’s who of Australian culture, from politicians to celebrities and from sporting heroes to artists. Prestigious and controversial, the Archibald Prize is Australia’s foremost portraiture prize. Finalists are exhibited at the Art Gallery of New South Wales before embarking on a year-long regional tour. At the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery, and its sister site Culture Hub, is your last chance to see the 2019 Archibald Prize finalists.
Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery has received many entries to the Young Archie Competition from local budding artists. They will be on exhibition alongside the touring exhibition and we can't wait for you to see them as well.
Due to our restricted numbers, RSVPs are essential and tickets are $25 per person. There is a limit of 2 tickets per booking.
Strict social distancing measures apply based on NSW Government guidelines of 2 square metres per person.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Best wishes,
The Gallery Team.
