Event description
Exercise is an integral component of a cancer patients journey and is a well-established tool in the overall management of these patients.

About this event

Presented by:

  • Travis Hall, Exercise Physiologist
  • Emma Bruns, Exercise Physiologist

Exercise science research has demonstrated that a quality exercise program, taking into consideration cancer specific guidelines, moderates the type and magnitude of adaptations in a dose-response fashion. While oncology patients often have a high cancer specific symptom burden, making exercise a challenge. Well documented evidence has shown that exercise can reduce the severity of a number of these symptoms.

Given the wide range of symptoms experienced by patients with cancer, and the unpredictable nature of cancer growth and progression, there are a number of safety considerations and red flags to be aware of when exercising these patients.

We will focus on the effects of exercise on cancer specific symptoms, the most up to date guidelines for exercising patients throughout the cancer continuum and the safety precautions for exercising these patients.

This lecture series is ideal for Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Exercise Physiologists, Allied Health Assistants, and Exercise Professionals with an interest in Oncology.
