WIFT VIRTUAL are very proud and excited to be delivering the fourth episode of the Excellence in Craft series – ‘Championing Female Composers’ in collaboration with Screen Queensland and the Australian Guild of Screen Composers (AGSC) as part of Asia Pacific Screen Academy 's(APSA) 2nd annual conference.
Until now all WIFT VIRTUAL events have been online but this time we have something a little special. As well as the online tickets we have limited in-person tickets kindly offered by APSA holding their 2nd annual conference at HOTA , Surfers Paradise (20-26 Nov). In this Excellence in Craft episode 'Championing Female Composers' we bring you musical director Sneha Khanwalkar moderated by Vice-President of AGSC Me-Lee Hay, two amazing composers in their own right.
Our guest speaker is Sneha Khanwalkar, India's young musical icon renowned for her 2017 TED Talk that took the audience into her creative zone using technology and creativity to create a unique piece of music live onstage. Sneha works in Hindi films as a musical director, having 13 films and 60 compositions to her name. She is best known for her score of the film, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, and also for Gangs of Wasseypur Part 1, Part 2. She has been nominated in the Best Music Director category at the 58th Filmfare Awards for Gangs of Wasseypur Part 1 & Part 2.
Our moderator is Award winning Australian composer Me-Lee Hay who composes music for film/TV, dance and theatre. Her score for the fantasy driven 30 minute short film Last Tree Standing won Best Music for a Short Film at Australia's prestigious APRA Screen Music Awards. Other works include original composition for Museum Victoria’s Scienceworks planetarium dome astronomy documentaries Starlight and Capturing the Cosmos (narrated by Sigrid Thornton and Geoffrey Rush respectively), SBS One series travel/cooking show Luke Nguyen (Greater Mekong 2, France, UK) and Network Ten’s Ben’s Menu.
