Event description

Description

The application of the manner of manufacture requirement with regard to computer implemented inventions has undergone significant scrutiny by the courts over the last decade. Key cases such as Research Affiliates and RPL have shaped the way that IP Australia approaches examination for these types of inventions.

What to expect

This seminar is a unique opportunity for patent attorneys to be provided a direct and detailed narration of IP Australia’s application of manner of manufacture to ICT technologies. The talk will provide an overview of significant case law, an exploration of the framework that is used by IP Australia to apply the law, and provide an understanding of how to effectively engage with examination objections.

Presenting will be Dr Nathan Madsen, who is an experienced hearing officer and the current Supervising Examiner of ELEC4 – Data Processing and Measurements, the section primarily responsible for examining computer implemented inventions involving manner of manufacture issues.

Light refreshments will be provided from 5:30pm, with the seminar commencing at 6pm.
