Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

Join iconic and ‘ordinary’ locals as they bring Kings Cross’ unique character to life. This special series, produced by Vashti Hughes, comes to an end as we look at the current decade in this final event.

This popular series concludes with a look back at the most recent decade. Vashti talks to her guests about the changes brought by the rise of development and the reform of licensing laws. Come along and listen to first hand stories of life in the modern day Cross for small business owners, theatre makers and community workers.

Our storytellers

Eulalie Moore

Eulalie, a long-term customer of the iconic Piccolo Bar has recently taken over its management. She’ll share her story about opening a small business in the Cross in the current climate and things she’s trialling to keep customers coming.

Warren Fahey

Warren is not only a local but also a prolific creative – folklore collector, author, actor, broadcaster, producer, artist, songwriter and performer. He’ll be chatting about the cultural changes over this decade, especially the successful independent theatres.

Guy Cooper

Guy has worked at Wayside Chapel as Community Development Manager since 2011. He’s responsible for transitioning Wayside from a crisis centre into a broader community hub serving the needs of all local residents.

Vashti Hughes

Vashti has a gift for character. With Kings Cross as her stamping ground, she’s played a variety of roles and curated cabarets. Her show, Piccolo Tales, set in the Piccolo Café Bar, celebrated the colourful characters of the Cross.
