EVENT POSTPONED: Food systems change from Vermont's Farm to Plate Plan
Event Information
About this Event
You are invited to hear from Jake Claro, Director of the Vermont Farm to Plate Program.
“The Vermont Farm to Plate Plan is widely regarded as the most comprehensive food system program in the United States, and the only one with full government engagement. It’s approaching the end of its first decade, and gearing up for the next with a growing global reputation. The Plan takes a coordinated, long-term and collaborative approach with all parts of the food system, far beyond a simple focus on agricultural output.”
Some of its achievements since 2010 are remarkable including:
- Increasing the purchases of local food, from $176 million to $310 million
- Supporting the creation of 6529 net new jobs in food-related industries
- Helping the establishment of 379 net new food and farm businesses
- Achieving a 26% reduction in the number of food insecure people across the state.
Jake will share Vermont's Farm to Plate Plan achievements and challenges and then in a facilitated Q & A session together with a local panel we will delve into how we can all strengthen Adelaide's local food system. Panelists include local systems innovator, Sharon Zivkovic and SA Urban Food Network facilitator, Christy Spier.
Join us for a delicious lunch at the Watershed Cafe (FREE with thanks to the City of Salisbury) from 12:30 pm with Jake sharing from 1:30pm.
