Writing in the New York Times in June 2016, We are long overdue for a new perspective — both because our understanding of the neuroscience underlying addiction has changed and because so many existing treatments simply don’t work."

In this lecture, the Florey's Prof Andrew Lawrence looks at new treatments and fresh ways to think about the recovering brain.

The lecture will begin promptly at 6.30pm and finish at approximately 7.45pm.

Presenter

Prof Andrew Lawrence is Division Head, Behavioural Neuroscience at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health and runs the Addiction Neuroscience laboratory. Andrew has published over 200 original articles & reviews, and been cited more than 6000 times. Andrew was Treasurer of the Australian Neuroscience Society (2002-2008) and is a Fellow of the British Pharmacological Society. He was Senior Editor of The British Journal of Pharmacology (2007-2014) and is currently a reviews editor with The British Journal of Pharmacology. He is Associate Editor of Neurochemical Research and the Journal of Pharmacological Sciences. He sits on the editorial board of Addiction Biology. Andrew is the current President of the Asian-Pacific Society for Neurochemistry.

Reasonably priced parking, including many disability spaces, is available under the Kenneth Myer Building with lift access to the auditorium. We suggest that you bring some gold coins for the ticketing machine.

Public transport

Take tram 19 on Elizabeth Street, heading away from the city to stop 11, Melbourne University. Cross the road to the Kenneth Myer Building. Look for the Dr Dax cafe sign and you'll know you're there.
