Celebrate National Eucalypt Day and the Gardens 50th birthday year by participating in a Eucalypt Dyeing Workshop

About this Event

Celebrate National Eucalypt Day and the Gardens 50th birthday year by participating in a Eucalypt Dyeing Workshop on Sunday 29 March 2020. In this workshop you will learn how to make Eucalyptus leaf and bark dyes to make imprints on fabric.

Each participant will dye a scarf to take home as well as samples of wool, silk and linen dyed in local ACT eucalypts. Morning tea and a short guided walk showing a variety of Eucalypt species in the Gardens is included.

Sally Blake is a local textile artist who has done extensive research on plant dyes, including two eucalyptus dye research projects at the ANBG. She is currently studying the 40 plus eucalypt species that grow naturally in the ACT. Sally has created a Eucalyptus Dye Database with recipes and dye colours which is freely available at www.sallyblake.com.

Workshops limited to 15 participants, suitable for 15yrs and over.
