Event description

Description

Europe and Australia have a wealth of different but complimentary expertise across the Earth Observation (EO) value chain. This balance opens up significant opportunities for partnerships between European and Australian companies, targeted to solve specific challenges faced by major industries in each continent. In addition, there is a range of timely funding and technical opportunities that make 2018 the perfect year to start these partnerships.

The timing of this trade mission will align with a visit by EU Commissioner Bienkowska, who will be in Australia from the 5-8 of March 2018. Her focus in Australia will be on growing the space economy, particularly around exploiting Copernicus, the earth observation progamme (http://www.copernicus.eu/).

Supporting this opportunity, Australian companies in Brisbane, Canberra and Sydney are being invited to host a delegation of European remote sensing companies. These organisations are on a mission to Australia to connect with businesses, with the intention of forming partnerships focused around EO Services, with the potential to bid together for Horizon2020 funding.

Horizon2020 is the biggest European Union Research and Innovation program ever, €80 Billion over 7 years, and the recent call for proposals includes explicit funding for collaboration between Australian and European companies.

In addition to the immediate Horizon2020 funding, there will also be significant opportunity to discuss Australia-EC Copernicus data exchange, the Copernicus services ( eg. Emergency Management), and how EU and Australian companies can collaborate.

About this Mission

In partnership with Geoscience Australia, the European Association of Remote Sensing Companies (EARSC), CSIRO, SIBA|GITA and Earth Observation Australia (EOA), the Cooperative Research Centre for Spatial Information invites Australian remote sensing companies to join us to host a targeted mission of European remote sensing companies to Australia in March 2018. Companies will participate in an extensive program of networking events, briefings and introductions to remote sensing companies, investors and customers.

About the Horizon2020 Funding

The current Horizon2020 workplan has a new focus on AU/EU collaboration, particularly around the remote sensing application development. This call provides the opportunity to collaborate with EU companies for access to €1-2 million for collaborative project work, with applications likely to open in October 2018. This trade mission provides an ideal opportunity for EU and AU remote sensing companies and organisations to network, to identify complimentary skills and interests, and ultimately to form partnerships to bid for Horizon2020 funds.
