Description

Join our native bee expert, Elke Haege, to learn how to create a homes for native solitary and social bees in your school or early learning centre garden.

We will tour the Randwick Sustainability Hub's Permaculture Interpretive Garden garden to view:

  • native stingless bee hives
  • a range of solitary bee homes for native bees like the blue banded bee and resin bee.

Elke will show examples of the types of homes you can make to attract these native bees and talk about the types of plants you can grow to feed these little creatures.

Yummy organic nibblies on arrival.


This workshop is aimed at early learning, primary and secondary educators in the Woollahra, Randwick and Waverley Council areas.

WHERE: The timber classroom at the Randwick Community Centre, 27 Munda Street Randwick (near the community centre on the Village Green)


*It is a bit tricky to find - don't use your GPS - if you do look up Hendy Ave. Turn off Bundock St into Hendy Avenue, do a dog leg then turn right into Marida St and follow the road around till you get to the community centre. The timber classroom is adjacent to the community centre building on the village green.

Need accreditation?

NSW Department of Education (DoE) teachers who attended our ESSSN meetings can now log in through their DoE portal and register for one hour of accredited professional learning. As long as you register before the course, turn up and sign in, you will be accredited.

DoE teachers can apply through MyPL on Course Code: NR09055 under DoE course 'Sustainability Networks'.


Children welcome

If you are bringing children, we suggest you bring some activities for them, childcare is not available.

The Eastern Suburbs Sustainable Schools Network (ESSSN) welcomes local parents and teachers wanting to network and share ideas about school sustainability. The Network is coordinated between Waverley, Woollahra and Randwick councils that plan meetings, organise guest speakers and workshop activities. The councils support early childhood centres through to high schools to implement real-life sustainability learning.
