Long gone are the days where Christmas was about one small gift and connecting with family and close friends to celebrate the year that has been and the gift of giving and treasuring being together.
Today, in Western Society, Christmas is driven by marketing campaigns. The pictures of stockings stuffed and overflowing with presents, lunches that need to be on par with the spreads in magazines, long cues in traffic, almost impossible trips to and from the shopping centres and postage that slows down to a very slow rate if you haven’t got in early!
Everyone wants everything done before Christmas. The quicker, the easier and the more “stuff” the better! And bonus points if its covered with brand names! Then the kids will really love you right??!!
When I hear people say they hate Christmas, my heart breaks. I was blessed with a mother who made these some of the most special times of year for us, full of magic and family connection.
DIY decorations, DIY gifts for teachers, lots of cooking and baking, amazing care at wrapping our gifts so they looked beautiful before they were even open, and really focusing on the story and the true meaning of Christmas.
These DIY Workshops are just that - getting back to basics and really focusing on what Christmas and the gift of giving and creativity really is.
