Overview
Developed and delivered by the TAFEcyber Consortium, this new 18-hour Essential Eight Essentials course is for technical and non-technical professionals at the beginning of their ‘Essential Eight’ journey.
The Essential Eight Essentials course has been created by the TAFEcyber Consortium in response to industry need for an Essential Eight ‘introductory’ course and is delivered by TAFEcyber members.
The Essential Eight Essentials course provides an in-depth introduction to the Australian Signals Directorate’s (ASD) Essential Eight Maturity Model. During the course participants will gain an appreciation of the history, context, and overall purpose of the Essential Eight cyber security mitigation strategies as well as an understanding of the key requirements of each mitigation strategy. Learning will be reinforced by practical exercises conducted in a lab environment.

Eligibility and entry requirements
To enrol in this course, you must be aged 17 years or older, an Australian citizen or permanent resident; and:
- possess sufficient literacy, numeracy, and digital literacy to be able to navigate and utilise the various learning and assessment resources provided in the course; and
- have a minimum Certificate IV in Information Technology (IT) or equivalent experience (for example, two (2) years’ experience in an IT, governance, risk and compliance, cyber security, or a generalist management/ administrative role).
Applicants will be vetted to ensure they meet the entry requirements, including verification of their background and experience.

What you will learn
At the completion of the training participants will be ready to contribute to the implementation of Essential Eight Maturity Model within their own organisation and will be prepared to undertake the Essential Eight Assessment Course if they do not currently meet eligibility requirements or do not possess the underpinning knowledge required to successfully complete that course.
