Internationally renowned 10-string virtuoso Guitarist Matthew Fagan who has toured with The Buena Vista Social Club and Billy Connolly! and Flamenco Dancer Laura Uhe who had danced with Opera Australia, Vic Opera and The Antonio Vargas Flamenco Dance Theatre Company, combine musical passion and dance in an exciting innovative new performance.

Matthew’s infuses the exhilarating traditional flamenco elements of Spanish Guitar with classical masterworks of Rodrigo, De Falla, Albeniz, Granados and more into stunning new arrangements accompanied with Laura’s unique fusion of Flamenco and Classical Dance and traditional flamenco Dance and (percussion).

Matthew performs Spanish repertoire from classical to flamenco, plus the colourful and rhythmic sounds of South American Classical and Latin masterpieces.

The duo capture the raw, authentic combination of flamenco dance and guitar, creating an intimate connection with the audience through their superb technical ability and emotionally fiery execution.

Matthew Fagan has long been established as one of Australia’s finest exponents of the guitar. Matthew has toured with Billy Connolly, The Buena Vista Social Club, Shirley Bassey, Natalie Cole and Michael Crawford. Matthew’s virtuosic rendition of Bach’s famous Toccata in D Minor featured on ABC TV.

Matthew has performed in more than 120 countries worldwide as a soloist, with orchestra and bands including extensive touring across Europe, South America, Alaska, Canada, China, Japan and South East Asia

Matthew’s music education has been at the Victorian College of the Arts (Performance -Classical and improvisation), Monash University (Ethnomusicology, Composition Education) and a Masters PHD of Cultural Development at the University of Melbourne. Matthew has studied and/or performed with masters John Williams, Paco Pena, Leo Kottke, Martin Taylor, Joe Pass amongst others.

Laura Uhe – Flamenco Dancer

Trained in classical ballet (RAD) from the age of 4, at 14 Laura became a member of the Perth City Ballet Youth Company, touring Scotland and the U.K. Laura began studying Flamenco and Spanish Classical dance in 1985, initially in Perth with Deanna Blacher, then in Canberra with Gunta Hamra and later with Charito Saldana, Ana Romero and Mario Orbitani in Melbourne. Laura has also studied intensively in Spain with Master Teachers including Carmela Creco, La Tati, Ciro, Sara Baras, Rafaela Carrasco, and classical Spanish under Paco Romero in Madrid.

Laura has studied under Antonio Vargas (Strictly Ballroom and joined The Antonio Vargas Flamenco Dance Theatre Company and performed in many productions including Harvey Goldstein/Vic Opera’s international production of Carmen in Sydney and Melbourne. Laura played the role of gypsy Flamenco Dancer in Carmen with Opera Australia in 2009, 2010 and was Dance Captain in this production in 2014.

Laura has performed extensively in theatre productions, festivals and corporate events throughout her career. Highlights include the Melbourne Festival of the Arts, Latin Summer at the Arts Centre, Brunswick Music Festival, Port Fairy Festival, La Casa De Bernanda Alba at the Malthouse Theatre, and Suena Flamenca – a collaboration with flamenco artists from Sydney Melbourne and Spain.
