Event description

Description

If you missed out last year, we are hosting another session of ERGONOMICS FOR TRANSLATORS AND INTERPRETERS.

Today’s translators and interpreters in both commercial and community settings face a number of attacks that often do not get enough attention when it comes to coping skills. These threats to our wellbeing are both internal and external.

Many issues would usually be addressed through employers’ OHS policies, which are not necessarily made directly available to TI given their working arrangements – insecure casual employment and contracting.
TIA offers you the opportunity to discover the easy things you can do to prevent that end of the day sore back or the endlessly swollen feet , through the study of Ergonomics.

The presentation will include a discussion of ergonomics, the relevant aspects thereof affecting TI and simple steps anyone can take to prevent and reduce injuries.

RSVP: 18th February 2019

By attending this event you can earn 10 Category 1.6 Professional Development points

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Pedro Varela de Matos is a certified and practising T&I in Spanish & Portuguese. He has completed a Bachelor of Health and of Arts, majoring in Physiotherapy and Communications. He is currently undertaking post graduate studies in TI at RMIT whilst continuing to work to serve his community. With a strong background in health and legal settings, Pedro is an active TIA member. His interest in Ergonomics stems from his fascination with Human Movement and his unwavering desire to improve human existence.

In addition to the presentation, an update on the ongoing campaign for further reforms in the Victorian language services sector will be provided.

Your Translators and Interpreters Australia membership provides online peer to peer PD options for members. From time we aim to provide live opportunities for networking and interaction.
