Muska (Addictech Records/Lo FI Records/Melbourne) - 2hrs Set
From a very young age music was a big part of Michael Muska's life journey. Be it piano recitals or school performances, he was often encouraged towards music, however never pursuing it until the age of 18, when he first discovered his passion for electronic music.
Since then Muska has been producing but it was never with the intention of being a touring artist. Instead the art form was a personal meditation away from the chaos of the world, where he could sit, express and get excited within the seclusion of his studio, and take pleasure in the simple art form that is creating music.
Dj'ing was an outlet which he expressed his diverse tastes of whatever sounds he was drawn to at the time. However when it came to playing other peoples music, he could only dig deep for and play tracks that had a common thread of dirty yet melodic soundscapes that he himself would write as an artist, with the intention of one day creating music like the records he was playing. This ear for what he, as a producer, would write later tied both worlds together as 'producer' and 'dj'. Leading him to a distinct sound that can only be experienced, not described, as Muska has never followed generic trends yet incorporates many different genres and sounds whilst still consistently booked at any type of club or event holding many residencies with free reign doing entirely his own thing.
It was several years after arriving in Melbourne that a close friend Phil Martin, from Loophole Recordings, twisted his arm to get the ball rolling with music releases. In 2013 it was Addictech Records that gave Muska the second wind of encouragement he needed for his bushtechno EP release. However since then Muska has been reluctant to release more music, especially in an over saturated market, something so personal for so long can remain exclusive for his sets for the time being with a handful of releases to keep audiences engaged along the way.
It wasn't until 2015 when Kasey Taylor sat down with Muska and carefully analysed what was 14 years of music. From old Reason files to current Abelton projects, it was the veteran audio engineer's excitement that sparked a self belief in Muska, which made him realize he has actually been making this creation his entire life and there was a substantial amount of material there that deserved to be finished.
It was then that Kasey sat down with Muska and lovingly shared the knowledge that a 30 year experienced audio engineer had, and since then he finally began bouncing all those project files and started processing them with new analog equipment, VST's and software. With the confidence for the first time to harness everything he learnt over the years, combined with new knowledge, Muska now shares his work with Australia, the festivals and the dancefloors that inspired him.
It is now in 2016 and the start of 2017, that we can hear from his entire collection of music evolving from old roots of club house and techno to the inspired bushtechno sound the artist has become renowned for in the later years of his djn main stage bushdoof festival sets.
