Description

Entrepreneurial Personas: What role do I play in the entrepreneurial ecosystems?

(Disruption and Drinks: Occassional talks, mingle and drinks on creative social entrepreneurship)

Entrepreneurial Personas brings a human-centred approach to understanding the diversity of entrepreneurs found in entrepreneurial ecosystems, like the Sunshine Coast. This talk by Drs Retha de Villiers Scheepers and Erica Mealy from the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC), provides an overview of the 14 entrepreneurial personas that emerged from a SCC-USC collaborative research grant. A shared understanding of entrepreneurial personas can help:

  • Entrepreneurs work out where they fit into the overall ecosystem and how their motives and behaviour differ, and how they contribute.

  • Supporters of entrepreneurial activity, like the Old Ambo, co-working spaces, and support agencies to design programs for specific groups.

  • Better communication with entrepreneurial sub-groups.

Our Presenters:

Dr Retha de Villiers Scheepers teaches entrepreneurship and innovation management at the USC at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Retha volunteers in the Sunshine Coast start-up community as a Startup Weekend organiser and #SiliconCoast facilitator creating opportunities for entrepreneurial students to extend their network and to share and grow their start-ups and meet like-minded individuals. Retha’s main research interests are related to the entrepreneurial experience within startups and existing organisations.

Dr Erica Mealy is a lecturer in Information and Communications Technology in the USC School of Business. As an accomplished software engineer with 14 years industrial experience, Erica has a passion for sharing her drive for making and coding to inspire the next generation of innovators and professionals. She has been writing code for over 20 years and has experience in areas as diverse as sports analysis, train control, safety critical software, embedded electronics, databases and the web.

Join us and work out where you fit into the entrepreneurial ecosystem!
