Event description

Description

Thank you to The University of Technology Sydney for supporting our conference dinner in 2017.

Enjoy an opportunity to relax and unwind with an evening of delicious local food, music and wine at The Sanctuary Adelaide Zoo with Guest Speaker Dr Paul Willis.

Dr Paul Willis is a respected leader in the science community, and joined RiAus in 2011, continuing an impressive career in science.

Dr Willis has a solid research career in vertebrate palaeontology, studying the fossils of crocodiles and other reptiles. He has the distinction of having discovered a number of significant vertebrate fossil specimens, including a small dinosaur and a large ichthyosaur. He has led eight public expeditions to Antarctica, authored and co-authored seven books on dinosaurs, rocks and fossils and authored many popular articles on science subjects across a wide range of topics.

He also has an extensive career in science communication working for the ABC on TV programs such as Catalyst and Quantum as well as radio and online.

At home in front of an audience, Paul is passionate about informing, educating and exciting people about science and is keen to talk about science in a variety of public forums. As Director of RiAus, he’s finding new ways to engage the people of Australia with the science that underpins their world.

Paul’s goal is simple; to turn our nation on to science. A scientifically engaged society is a healthier, happier and more prosperous society so what can I do to improve science engagement in Australia?
