Event Details

The Clean Energy Council is the peak body for the clean energy industry in Australia, representing over 400 leading businesses and 4,000 solar installers operating in the renewable energy industry. The CEC is committed to accelerating the transformation of Australia’s energy system to one that is smarter and cleaner. This is an exciting time for the industry. The current level of investment in Australian renewable projects is unprecedented, and there is a recognition that bringing forward this investment in new forms of energy generation is necessary to ensure continued energy security as ageing thermal generation continues to close.

The current Independent Review into the Future Security of the National Electricity Market can play a crucial role in understanding how Australia can transition to a low-emissions electricity sector, while both ensuring energy security supply and affordability of power for Australian consumers. In order for the transition to be successful, the electricity system and market structures must be adaptable and accepting of new technologies. As well as an overview of the CEC and broader initiatives, we will present the current ongoing discussion around whether the recommendations presented in the Finkel Review are sufficient to achieve the vision of a reliable and secure future NEM which lowers emissions and rewards consumers.

At the Clean Energy Council, Emma’s work is focused on energy transformation, particularly on integration of renewable energy into the grid and energy market reform. She has been involved in engagement on the Finkel Review and other energy market reform processes currently underway in the NEM, which are progressing changes to transform Australia's power system.
