Description

Ending the Separation of Housing and Health—More Than Just Another Good Idea
David E Jacobs PhD – Chief Scientist – National Center for Healthy Housing, USA.

We have known for a long time about the connection between housing and health. For example, lead contamination in housing has long been a serious health issue in the USA and recent Australian research has highlighted the relationship between damp housing and children’s asthma. But in most policy settings, housing and health seem to operate in separate worlds.

David suggests some reasons why there has been such a divide between the two fields but then goes on to provide a number of important strategies to more effectively join up the two issues. A key tool here is the recently released "WHO International Housing and Health Guidelines" (David was a key co- author of this document).

David E Jacobs, PhD, CIH is currently Chief Scientist at the National Center for Healthy Housing, where he directs the US Collaborating Center for Healthy Housing Research and Training for the World Health Organization.

Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the presentation at 7.45pm
