Online event

Overview

This is part of a series focused on providing palliative care education for staff working in residential aged care.

Target Audience: All clinical and management staff in residential aged care homes.

Education Overview:
After delivering a palliative approach and recognising the stages of deterioration, an important clinical skill is recognising when a resident’s death is approaching. The process of dying can be a fearful experience for all, including staff. With good care and preparation, most people can die comfortably.

End-of-life is a unique and challenging experience for health professionals, families, and staff. Each resident is part of the community that makes residential aged care homes feel like home. This webinar aims to empower staff to ensure that each resident, as a valued member of the residential aged care home, can live with dignity and comfort until the end.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Identify approaching death of a resident.
2. Identify the actions required to prepare the aged care home, staff, resident, and their family for the last days of life and terminal phase.
3. Identify appropriate palliative and end-of-life care tools.
4. Effectively communicate with team and family to ensure reduced anxiety and optimal care.
